Yellow Water Cruises

Learn more

This is a must-do Territory experience.  It is the only way to see the wetlands in Kakadu.  There are cruises all day, but the dawn cruise is particularly recommended.  Expect to see crocodiles, Jabiru, a variety of other birds and occasionally a buffalo.  The bus to the boats leaves from Cooinda Lodge.

Warradjan Cultural Centre

Learn more

The Warrandjan Culture Centre in the heart of Kakadu is well worth a visit on your way back from Yellow Water.  If you are lucky, you will find people weaving out the back who will teach you a thing or two.

Nourlangie Rock

Learn more

Nourlangie is a bush walk that will take you past some incredible rock art.  You will also get a view of the Arnhem Land escarpment which is well worth seeing.  It doesn't take too long and can easily be done during the day (without being too tiring).

Ubirr

Learn more

Ubirr is best seen at sunset.  Plan to go early so that you can walk around and take in the rock art.  The rangers do tours which will see you head up to the top of the rock for sunset. Prepare to be amazed and bring along a good quality camera.

Gunlom Falls

Learn more

The ultimate infinity pool, Gunlom Falls is a breathtaking place.  It is crocodile free so you can have a dip in the clear water.  It is difficult to get to, 4WD only and requires camping in the camp ground at the bottom of the falls.

Accommodation

Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel

Learn more

The Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel is one of the better accommodation options in Jabiru, the township in the heart of Kakadu National Park.  While it is aging, the pool is nice and the restaurant even better.  It is the most convenient accommodation if you are seeing Ubirr at sunset.

Cooinda Lodge Kakadu

Learn more

Cooinda Lodge offers a number of accommodation options from bungalows, to rooms, to camping.  It is a beautiful facility on the doorstep of Yellow Water.  Prices are high during the Dry and you will need to book well in advance.  It is a long drive in the dark if you are coming back from Ubirr at sunset.
